Bidwell Flour Mill

Scott Teeple

2005

141 Salem St

The Chico Museum was originally a Carnegie Library. When it was changed over from a library to a museum, the windows had to be boarded up to protect artifacts from light and heat. These boards were unattractive and artist Scott Teeple was asked to paint a mural in the blank spaces.

The mural on the front of the building is a nod to Chico’s past agricultural heritage depicting workers from the flour mill.

The mural on the back of the building is a nod to Chico State’s beginning, Chico Normal School. This mural is also a “then” and “now” of the university.
